Large antique plaquette bronze
This is an antique French heart-shaped memorial plaque, often used as a grave marker or epitaph. This particular plaque is made of bronze, and contains inscriptions commemorating two people. Details Material: bronze with a green patina. Shape: Heart-shaped, divided into two unequal halves. Inscriptions (French): Left side: "ICI REPOSE CHATEAU THOMAS Décédé le 27 Aout 1869 dans sa 42ème Année" (Here lies Chateau Thomas, who died on 27 August 1869 in his 42nd year). Right side: "REPOSENT ET SON FILS CHATEAU PIERRE Décédé le 9 Mars 1894 dans sa 55ème Année" (Here lies Chateau Pierre, who died on 9 March 1894 in his 55th year). Bottom: "Regrets of their family" (Regret/Grief of their family). Context: Such plaques are common examples of French funerary art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. They are often found in cemeteries and are also traded as antiques. Grand, rare, unique size!!! Such a large heart is rarely found.
