Antique silver witch ball

The image shows a large, antique-looking, silvered glass ball, often called a "witch's ball" or Christmas ornament. Witch's balls are hollow glass spheres that were popular in England in the 17th and 18th centuries to ward off evil spirits, witches, and bad luck. They were traditionally hung in windows; it was believed that evil spirits who touched the ball would become trapped in the glass strands inside.
