Antique green witch ball

This is an antique, thick-walled, green glass ball (kugel). Kugels are early German Christmas decorations dating from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. Originally made in Lauscha, Germany, they were heavy and often too heavy to hang from tree branches, so they were hung from the ceiling. The glass balls are silvered on the inside and have a metal (often brass) cap to seal the opening and prevent oxidation. They became popular in America after F.W. Woolworth introduced them in the 1880s. 9 cm
