Antique cloche de melon

This image shows an antique French glass dome, also known as a cloche de melon or garden dome. Use: Originally used in vegetable gardens to protect young plants from frost and to function as a mini-greenhouse. Material and Color: Made of glass with a characteristic water-green color. Feature: This example has a cut-off knob, which was common because it made stacking the cloches easier. They were also sometimes cut off during glassblowing.
